CHOOSING THE CORRECT SIZE TURKEY
How many people are you feeding?
We recommend one and a half pounds per person. For example, if you are expecting to feed 12 people, you will need an 18-pound turkey. This will provide you with some leftovers.
How much leftovers do you want?
If you are planning to pack some leftovers off with guests or just extremely partial to turkey sandwiches, you will want to allocate one and three quarters of a pound per person. To use the same example as above, you will need a 21-pound turkey.
Are you serving ham or any other meat?
Sometimes turkey shares the spotlight with another protein – often a ham or even a roast. If this is the case, you will want to make an adjustment down on the size of your turkey. There are no hard and fast rules here. Not everyone will want turkey and some will skip the other meat, so it helps to have a conversation to eliminate any non-turkey eaters. This is best accomplished over the phone.
